About Me:

MOTTO: IT'S JUST PAINT! Began learning how to fix/paint/install things myself when I was a young (and poor) new mom ~Home Depot was the best discovery I ever made! I've hauled truckloads of mulch, installed cabinets, granite, windows and I've painted just about anything that would stand still long enough. I have built furniture, designed kitchens, taught decorating classes, and .........I'm sure I'll remember something else later. Any way, people started hiring me because they liked my "stuff." (And I guess word spreads when you show up on time!) I took a decade off (for my youngest who was a preemie), and I'm now ready to get back to work.

Favorite area of home improvement:

I love to paint! I put up wallpaper in the 80's and took it down in the 90's! I build furniture and.........well I guess it depends on what day you ask me!

Outdoor Living: How much would it be for someone to help build a pondless waterfall from one of the kits they have available?

Has anyone done this before? Most of the kits are for do it yourself but if help were needed in the middle of the project, who would be able to assist?

Beverly, it still sounds so weird to say, "she's almost 70!" That means I''m almost....nevermind!

The developer of The Hayfield on the saved one lot in the exclusive development for his personnel residence.

After working with CORE on all the community design work, the client hired us to help him create a unique and timeless estate. The architect designed the home in the French-country style ...»
which CORE used as inspiration for the exterior of the home. The client's desire was to create an established and formal appearance to the property. We accomplished this by specifying large caliper trees from a local nursery, Select Trees. The hardscape elements of the exterior include, a formal pool, custom privacy fence, stone arches, cast stone planters, wood gates and black concrete driveway. The landscape design features bold mass plantings punctuated by splashes of subdued color.

My grandmother told me to mix dish washing soap and water and spray liberally. It's always ...»
worked for me. (Even gets beetles off of the roses!)

Painting: My son just overloaded the washer machine which caused water to fill the plastic catch basin underneath, which then led

to water leaking down through the kitchen ceiling. I soaked up all the water from the basin and the water stopped dripping from the ceiling, but now we're left with a 4x4 wet square with ...»
a little loose paint in the ceiling. I'm guessing this is going to turn brown. What should I do? Dry the spot before mold can form? Will a blowdryer work? Help! I have no idea what to do or who to call to save my once flawless kitchen ceiling.

guess you could file this in the: "It could be worse" category!) - I'm waiting to hear the answers too.

Is it normal these days for a appliance repair man to pull up in his ford focus to work on a washer?

No signs on his car or anything, and then he walks up with a tablet of paper in his hand, no tools or anything? Was I wrong to send him away? And yes, I did hand him the $40 service call money, before sending him away.

I once had a dishwasher repairman show up in his car and I was skeptical. Come to find out, he ...»
was the owner of the company, all of his trucks were already out, and he was doing us a favor. Did he sound like he knew what he was talking about? Did he say who sent him? And there's nothing wrong with saying, "Hey, I'm a little uncomfortable because of______", and see how he answers.

I think it may be becoming more and more "normal" for a repair man/contractor to show up without a truck, especially on the initial visit ...[price of gas, today's economy, retiree getting back into the business to help someone out, etc]

Definitely "trust your gut," ask for credentials or make a phone call if you are not comfortable. [These days, they even say not to let a police officer in the house until you call and verify.]

Final Note: Some of the "best guys" in the business - I'm thinking of a few old-timers I've known - may not have the....."Gift of Gab," or know that they may be doubted if they don't "look" a certain way. (wasn't sure how to word that)
