  • Fresh flowers are a must for the dining table. Roadside flowers are tucked into mason jars that are seated inside a burlap-lined old drawer. 2

Chevron Wall - Step by Step Tutorial

I recently painted a feature wall in my gift shoppe with a chevron pattern and it turned out beautifully! I took pictures along the way and have shared a step by step tutorial on my blog. ...»
I'd love to know what you think. Please keep in mind the decor is for a gift shoppe and not necessarily how I would style my home. http://www.inspiredbycharm.com/2012/02/mak...

  • White is a non color and has contradictory interpretations. In Western cultures it symbolizes innocence and purity, cleanliness. White means safety, purity, and cleanliness. White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. 15
  • Green is the color of nature symbolizing growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety and is believed to have great healing power. It is the most restful color for the human eye--can improve vision. 14
  • Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. Red is the color of fire and blood, and is associated with energy, war, danger, as well as passion, desire, and love. 6
  • Blue represents peace, tranquility, and calm. Just the opposite, it also represents reverie, sadness, and melancholy. Blue also represents the sky, heavens, and the sea which is non ending, therefore it is often associated with depth and stability. 6
  • To the human eye, orange is a very hot color. Orange is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. It represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, and encouragement. 6

Painting: First time home buyer here. I close tomorrow! Yikes!

That said- the house is currently painted a nice, 'safe', beige with some maroon accents. Beautiful yes, but I want to do something completely different.. Simply because I CAN. ...»

The first pic is my master bath. I want to paint the walls a dark grey. I think it would look fab with the white tile/trim. However, I do not currently have plans of changing the cabinets, which are wood. Is this going to look ridiculous?

Same issue with the kitchen.. The previous owner has blue laminate counters (which I want to change, SOMEDAY), and a darker blue tile backsplash. IMO it does not mesh with the cabinet color, or the current wall color. What I want to change right now: I'm going with a wayyy lighter grey in the living spaces/kitchen/etc (with a smokey blue accent wall in living room)

So. Is going to a cooler nuetral color going to be painful to look at with the warm cabinet colors? A kitchen remodel is in my 5 year plan but not tomorrow.

Thanks fellow hometalkers :)

I have used the designer at my local Benjamin Moore paint store a lot recently to help me with ...»
color choices. Her advice is free and has been invaluable! I also found some good ideas for color use on Design Seeds, a blog with nothing but color schemes. The main thing is to have fun making your new house YOURS!

AND painting those cabinets could be a perfect solution for you. I'm painting mine!
