What is this and how do you work it? Rope maker?

I have seen similar at our Stuhr Museum in Grand Island Nebraska....it makes rope and the kids do the cranking that twists the rope

yes this is a hand crank rope maker. It works great with baling twine. Remember the length of rope is about 1/2 the total untwisted lines. Usually you will do three sets then hook them on the line again and twist the three togeather for a rope. Make sure you secure the ends well.
