When to put out preemergence herbicide for crabgrass in fescue lawn?

If planning to apply only once during spring and summer when is the best time to
prevent crabgrass in fescue lawn?

    Not sure where you live. In our area it is when the forsythia blossoms start to drop. A good garden center should have the answer or your state extension service.

    Apply it while the ground is still cool - if it warms up too much, the seeds will germinate! Lynda's posting above is spot on - before the Forsythia blossoms drop is an excellent guideline.

    Read the instructions on the package of the herbicide you plan to use, such as Scott's Weed-be-gone and you might also use a thermometer to check your ground temp.
