DIY Faux Fireplace Mantel Update

Creating a Life

Even if you are in a rental home, you can use a little imagination and some wood scraps to put together a quirky little DIY faux fireplace mantel that doesn't need to be a permanent fixture.
Living in a rented home without much money to spend, I really wanted to create a backdrop for my little electric fireplace heater that had a some character, and felt sort of like a real mantel. A focal point where I could display some of my favorite things.
My typical creative process involves making a mess :-) I pull together all the possible elements I could use to make my vision come to life and it can be a little crazy!
I used the faux brick panel that I had already been using behind the electric fireplace.
I chose some boards from previous DIY projects and some brackets from a shelf we were no longer using to create the mantel shelf and a frame around the brick panel.

I created a little raised "hearth" using some cool boards found curbside.
I love the way it turned out! It's a little shabby and quirky, but that's totally my style.
The perfect spot to display some special vintage and handmade things.
I didn't spend any money at all to add some charm and warmth to my living room space.
Instant illusion of a fireplace wall!

Best of all? You can take it with you when you move. And I did : )
