Setting the Garden with Plate Flowers

These plate flowers are easy to make and add a lovely touch to my garden. Because they're made of thrifted items they're inexpensive, and every one is unique. http://www.thriftyrebel.com

Grain Sack Inspired Table Top

In this table re-do, I used chalk paint to mimic the stripes that are found in vintage grain sack fabrics that are so popular in today's home decor.

  • One door complete and the other side is half way there.
  • Garage doors done...my favorite time of year.
  • One door in the process of being redone.
  • One door complete. They still open and close the same way. Hubby even made wood to look like wrought iron.
  • The before: Brown, boring and drab. And not fitting with our cottage style home.
  • The after: We are pleased as punch, and love the new look! Hubby spent 80 hours and total cost was about $200.

Our Cottage face-lift.

When we purchased our little stone cottage there were lot's of things we loved.

However we knew it needed more color and the garage doors just didn't fit. ...»

My husband is a building construction teacher at our local high school. Come see what he came up with for our garage doors and the other improvements we added as well.

All on our little bitty budget.

A lot of folks have asked and yes we do use our garage door openers.

Hubby was able to adjust for the added weight and he did upgrade a few parts.

Spring-time Accessories

Although the weather doesn't reflect it here in SW Ohio, spring has definitely made an appearance inside our home.

  • Before, pickled cabinets
  • All finished- the new pulls are installed. There was nothing wrong with the pickled cabinets. I wanted painted cabinets instead.
  • Cleaned, taped and ready to be painted with Annie Sloan's chalk paint. I do use a quality brush (Purdy). I use a chip brush to white wash though.
  • The lower cabinets have been painted with two coats of Annie Sloan's Old Ocre.
  • I used two coats of chalk paint, white washed ( paint thinned with water) with an off white paint, distressed and clear coated with a poly top coat.
  • The last cabinets are ready to paint!

Kitchen Cabinet Remake -Pickled to Beachy

These cabinets are located in a beach house. The white wash could be left off and a glaze added to make these less "beachy". The project took one quart of chalk paint.
