  • My original beloved Fairyball. 15
  • This is where my Fairyball piece sits in one of my shade gardens. Its on the left of this photo. 3
  • Oh no! A deadly mishap! Had to replace it with a temporary one this morning. 4
  • This is the TOP of the hole that is drilled in the log with the strand of lights plugged into the extension cord that is fished up through the hole in the log.
  • Feeding the lights into the INSIDE of the gazing ball.
  • Lights all inserted into the INSIDE of the gazing ball. This is how the ball will sit in the crook of the log.
  • I tape the extension cord and the end of the strand of lights together with electrical tape so they cannot fall back through that long hole in the log! Helps keep any moisture out too.
  • This is how the gazing ball sits on the log. No glue necessary. it just rests in the crook with the stem in the hole. Now I'll take some moss and cover up the transition.
  • All finished until I find a new gazing ball... 2

Lighted gazing ball

This is my lighted gazing ball that I lovingly refer to as my "Fairyball". It's made from a standard gazing ball that can be purchased at most garden or craft centers and an old log we ...»
fished out of a river while camping. We let it dry for a year, then drilled a hole right up through the center and ran an extension cord up through the hole to plug the strand of lights into. Colored LED lights have been the best string of lights because they do not get hot inside the glass ball and burn out. Its on a timer and glows 365 days a year down in my shade garden.

  • We drilled a a hole in the tea pot and then threaded it. We attached flanges to a solid concrete block to support both the tea pot and the gold pan. The block is heavy enough to support the weight of the unit underwater. 5

  • Here is my tea pot fountain in full bloom. 7
  • We drilled a a hole in the tea pot and then threaded it. We attached flanges to a solid concrete block to support both the tea pot and the gold pan. The block is heavy enough to support the weight of the unit underwater. 5
  • We then built a support for the gold pan and dropped the unit into the whiskey barrel. We added a fountain pump and inserted tubing up through the tee on the bottom of the pipe that supports the tea pot and into the tea pot. 1
  • Add water and your done! The unit is free standing so it can be leveled and no holes are drilled in the whiskey barrel. I put it all away every winter and take it out and set it up in the spring. 1
  • Last year we poured a concrete base that the whiskey barrel sits on so it doesn't sink into the dirt. 1

Hi Sharron! I hadn't checked my hometalk in a while and when I typed Hometalk in Google there ...»
was my garden fence with my grow sign! Always a surprise! Boy has it been a busy winter! Hubby and I have been making stuff to sell on Etsy and that has been a lot of fun. My son, Chris, who has TBI and epilepsy had a challenging week of seizures in early February and suffered 2nd & 3rd degree burns on his arm so we are still doing twice daily dressing changes and starting hand therapy to help with function in his hand. I've had a challenging time with my lungs and will be asking my lung doctor about undergoing a lung transplant at Cleveland Clinic in the future when I see him on the 20th. In the meantime I am enjoying the first signs of spring! The redwing blackbirds, killdeer, geese and bluebirds are already back, my daffodils are up out of the ground and the snow is melting. YEAH! I'll shave my legs in ten days and maybe even paint my toenails!

Started making these little vases and calling them "Love Me Knots"

This one is made out of a birch branch and holds a small test tube for flowers. We engraved "A friend is one who knows the song in your heart and sings it to you when you have forgot".

  • Small bobber dropped into the jug lets you see the water level at a glance.

Keep the water level in check in your pet waterers.

After I let the water run dry in the pet waterer I had the idea to drop a small fishing bobber into the jug so I can see the level at a glance!

Branch memo

We call these "memos from the branch office. We start with a branch, flatten one side and then the bottom so it sits correctly and the laser engrave the quote on it. Harder then it sounds because you only get one shot at it in the engraver.

What is "clip"?

I have a question for anyone who would care to fill me in... I see everyone "clipping" pics. What is this feature and how do I find out how to do it?

Thank you Jessica! You are only a few hours away from me! I really want to line my walkway ...»
with these. I should pick up a string of LED lights before they are gone for the year so I don't have to use individual battery lights. Have you thought of doing these along a string of lights? LEDs do not give off heat like regular mini lights do and colored ones give a much softer glow then white. Now that its cold and we have had cooler temps this is a possibility!
