Looking for some quick ideas to update your home's decor? Try one of the Domestic CEO's 6 tips to change your style in 30 minutes or less!
You know that feeling of sitting around your home, staring at the décor you’ve had in place for years, feeling like you want a change - but then looking at your schedule and realizing that you don’t have time to totally redecorate your home? Yeah, that’s a pretty normal feeling, especially after you’ve lived in any place for a period of time.

If you are looking for a few ideas to help you fall back in love with your home, here are some quick and easy tips that you can implement in less than 30 minutes to give your space a brand new feel.

Tip 1: Rearrange Your Furniture

When I decided that painting our walls was going to be out of the question, Mr. DCeo and I decided to move things around. As much as we could, we rearranged our furniture to give a new feel to the rooms, moving a couch from our upstairs loft area into our living room, a bookcase from the dining room to our family room, and a chaise lounge from our living room into my office. Moving things around makes rooms feel new again, without having to buy a single piece of furniture.

Now, just a few months ago, my husband decided that he really hated how our bedroom was set up. He wanted to move the bed to a different side of the bedroom, and get a wardrobe to provide additional storage. I wasn’t really keen on how he wanted things set up, but agreed to give it a shot.

We moved the bed, got the wardrobe, and lived with it for a couple weeks. After those weeks, we both agreed that the bed was better where it was before, but that the wardrobe was a nice addition.

The moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to move things around and live with them for a while. You can always move them back, or try something else if you don’t like the new setup. Sometimes, trying something new can help you appreciate how you had it originally.

Tip 2: Swap Pillows

If you like to use accent pillows in your home, try moving them from room to room. Often times, we buy pillows to match specific rooms in our homes, but they still work with other areas. So by swapping pillows between rooms, you may find that you’ve given that room just the pop of color it needs to make it feel fresh and new.

If you don’t have a lot of pillows yet, consider grabbing a couple. Adding some cute new pillows can be a very inexpensive and quick way to freshen up your couch, chairs, and beds.

Personally, I always keep an eye on the clearance area at Target for pillows, because every so often a pair will pop up for less than $10 a pillow (which is just about the price I like to pay.) I also like to stop in stores like Ross and Home Goods on a regular basis. just to keep an eye out for great deals on their pillows, too.

Tip 3: Change Out Towels

For a quick way to make your bathroom look different, try swapping out the towels for another color. If your walls are a neutral color, you can use bright towels to add an unexpected pop of color. Try to swap in towels that you have in storage or in another bathroom, or grab some news ones that you find on sale.

I find that I like to change my towels out quite often, so I’ve started always buying just 2 bath towels and 1 hand towel of each color I like. That way, I don’t have mountains of towels all in the same color, and I always have enough to fill the towel bars in my bathroom when I swap them out.

Tip 4: Paint an Accent Wall

Even if you aren’t willing to commit the time or money to painting all the walls in your home, painting an accent wall can be a fun way to change things up.

You could pick a small wall in your kitchen - like at the end of a galley kitchen, or the wall that has the appliances in a larger kitchen - or somewhere like the wall behind your headboard in your bedroom. Depending on how big the wall is, you may be able to get by with using as little as a quart of paint, but most walls will require a gallon.

If you think you are going to change the color of this accent wall often, just remember that very dark colors like red and navy are tough to cover up. I would recommend sticking to a lighter or brighter color versus a dark color of paint to save your sanity the next time you want to paint it.

Tip 5: Add Plants

Historically, I haven’t been a plant person. After killing a cactus that I had in my college dorm, I thought I was doomed to always have a brown thumb. Now that I’m a little older and have a slightly better idea of how to care for houseplants, I have a couple in my house, and they add just a little variety to the rooms.

The best part about plants is that they change on their own, so when they flower, climb walls, or grow taller, they are changing the décor for you. So the next time you’re at the grocery store, and you see a pretty little potted plant that you like, buy it for your home. As long as you remember to give it the water and light that it needs, it will make you smile every day.

Tip 6: Repurpose a Bookshelf

If you have a bookcase that doesn’t feel quite right, there are a few things you can try doing with it. First, empty it off; looking at an empty bookcase can help you more easily determine if you want to do something new with it. Maybe it would look better if you painted it, moved it to another room, or stocked it with shoes instead of books. Bookcases can offer so many more décor options than just storing books!

Often times, you’ll find that just removing most of the items on the bookcase will make you feel differently about the room the bookcase is in - so play around and see what your bookcase can do for your room.

With these 6 quick tips, I hope you are inspired to start playing around with the décor in your home. There are plenty of quick and easy changes that you can make in 30 minutes or less, and by spending little or no money. You deserve to love your home and every room in it, so start playing around to figure out how to make each room just the way you want them to be.
