Budget Friendly Foyer Update

Almost 2 years ago we bought our first home! Wow, I can't believe it's been that long. The market was booming and there wasn't a whole lot to choose from in the time frame we had. We lucked out and found a raised ranch with a beautiful lot that worked for our family of 4 and as a starter home, because we all need that first starter home. The entryway is the first thing you see when you open the front door. It's a little foyer with stairs leading up to the living and dining area and stairs leading down to a large family room, bedroom, and laundry room. To make it short, this is the first thing you see. I knew from the moment we walked in that the foyer had to be the first thing to be remodeled. In 2 years it has drastically changed and slowly come together as we had mounted it on top of other ongoing projects. I'd like to say it's finally done, but really in my creative world " it's never actually done." To see more photos you can check out my blog.
A Before and After of the work we've been doing on our foyer in our raised ranch home.
We tried sanding and re staining the parquet floors but it became a bigger job than we thought. The stain, no matter how many times the parquet was sanded just would adhere right. After much contemplation we actually decided to go with a budget friendly laminate flooring, which I find perfect for an entryway with heavy traffic. It's easy to clean, durable, and if it does get damaged it is very easy to replace. Not to mention Laminate these days doesn't even look like laminate. It works for us and our budget.
Another view of the dated foyer we had when we moved in.
The staircase was a huge DIY project. We really thought it would take a weekend to get done. Oh, were we wrong! It was a tedious job sanding, staining and painting the spindles but after 5 days of working on it we got it done and I love the results.
We changed out our 1980's style chandelier for a more modern one with frosted glass. It matches the new door knob perfectly.
We painted all the trim white as well.
