I'm a fan of Michaels, garage sales, and thrift stores -- as well as Hometalk to figure out how to make things on my own.

My current go-to places for new home decor merchandise are typically HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and/or Marshalls. I've bought a few things from Pottery Barn but for the most part, I'm just a PB "window shopper" because I think their prices are ridiculous. I've bought almost all of my (9) indoor/outdoor rugs from the Ballard Designs website when they have them on sale. For linens, towels and window treatments, I like good old-fashioned JCPenneys. If I'm in the mood to "treasure hunt" and not looking for anything in particular, I'll pop into Goodwill or thrift stores. When I'm looking for furniture, my #1 source is my local Craigslist. Probably 85% of the *new-to-me* furniture I bought for our current home (and a bedroom set, a dining room set and artwork for my daughter's home) came from Craigslist. About 8 years ago, I did do quite a bit of home decor shopping on Ebay (and still occasionally do) but I don't find too many bargains on there anymore. Now I typically only check Ebay when I can't find what I'm looking for anywhere else.

Kirkwoods and hobby lobby have some nice decor items. If nothing else you can take pictures of their stuff to "inspire" you to make your own pieces ;)

HomeGoods is my absolute must when shopping for decorating items and small furniture pieces. Online, I love Joss & Main and Wayfair, also Country Door, Arhuus, West Elm and of course, Craigslist! Guess it depends on the style of decorating you are doing.

the yardsales on facebook are addicting. Its like going to a virtual yardsale every day. Go on facebook. Put in the search field the name of your town or county and different variations of the words "online yardsale". If you live in a small town you may not have one so search under the next bigger town near you or your county. Love it. There are ones specifically for childrens things, antiques, furniture, electronics, etc. Never worry about wasting gas driving from yardsale to yardsale again.

Auctions! We go to local auction houses to bid in person and we also use online bidding websites (Proxibid, iCollector, Auctionzip, cyberauction, etc.). Some examples of local wins: 236 bi-fold doors (about half still in packages) for eleven cents each. Large farmhouse sink for $210 Vessel bowl for $60 Eleven two-panel interior doors for five dollars each Eight 7'x3' teak veneer bookcases for $40 each Some examples of online and out-of-state wins: Will Rogers/Wiley Post lamp for $210 Will Rogers last autograph before his death with lots of provenance for $80 (2) Will Rogers clocks for $60 and $70 Last week, I won 36 pieces of Rorstrand Cobalt FleurDeLis for $119.50 We also check the estate sale and yard sale websites for sales in three counties. We do occasionally check thrift stores but, since the economy has come back, it seems that many of them want to charge close to retail.
