Depends how long and the forecast, but often ask a neighbor or family member to come water. For pots (which need every day), I use wine bottles filled with water and tipped over and dug in the soil. They slowly release allowing for a longer time of not needing water.

As Jenny has said it depends on a number of things - where you live, how long you are away, sun exposure and forecast, if under a protected area and the amount of water the plant normally needs. If you need to water daily or more frequently best to ask a neighbour or family member to help out. The wine bottle trick is also a good one. You could also fill a large container - tub or something - and place plants in that with water in the bottle. You could also use a large beverage container and fill with water then place a wick from the container to the plant and the water will be absorbed by the soil. Hope this helps. Have a good trip where ever you are going.

I purchased a small plastic toddler swimming pool and set the pots that needed more water in the pool. Worked great.

You can make a cotton wick out of old t shirts, get a bucket or 2 liter bottle of water (depending on length of time away), sticking the wick down into the ground besides the plant and it will water itself!

You can put in a drip system if you have a water source near by.

Thank you for all your tips .Since I'm away often I decided to plant a few shrubs instead of plants in containers.
