Finished our stairs. Very pleased with it.

Our stairs were covered with carpet which needed either to replace or put wood on it. Decided to take a chance ( never done it before) and put wood down instead of carpet. I got a couple of estimates from various contractors, businesses. They were oitrages( $200-300/ stairs!!!).
By removing the carpet we discovered that the builder did a pretty bad job with building the stairs. No stairs are the same length, angle...had our work cut out for us.
Decided to go with wood plank from Lowes- unfinished. For the lending we purchased 5" wide wood plank from Lumber Liquidators.
We stained everything by ourself and made a custom made colored stain since we wanted dark but not too dark and it is hard to achieve it with red oak wood. I am delighted that this project is over ( have some touch ups to do) and so much nicer than my neighbors who paid over $4000.00 for hers.

would you mind sharing the color and product you used for the stain? I am redoing mine and I really like the way yours turned out, thanks!
