This is more a matter of opinion, but I think Consumer Reports listed granite just above quartz as far as "best" counter-top material. Granite has a beautiful look and is very functional. However, quartz (vs. granite) does not need to be sealed and is less porous (which makes it more resistant to staining and bacteria growth).
I agree with everything above. I have heard some resale experts say nothing beats granite for resale value, but I don't think you are going to scare away any potential buyers with a nice quartz countertop.
It depends on what you like, Granite is definitely something you should consider because of the resale value. But granite also comes with a bit of maintenance. You may have to seal once in 2 years and be very careful no to place hot things and a wine glass that may drip some wine on it. Quartz is my favorite for now because it is low maintenance. I cook a lot and I love it because at the end I just wipe with Lysol and I am done.

It is strickly touch controls rather than the knobs. The woman at Lowe's said that they had not had problems with this BUT It seems a little bit too progressive for me. Has anyone ever gotten this type of stovetop? It

is Whirlpool I believe. Totoally smooth - no knobs at all.
I can't offer any expertise on cooktops without knobs, but it sounds like it's worth looking up customer reviews and the Consumer Reports rating before buying. Also, LaVonne, I suggest you repost this as a completely new question. I think you will get some more feedback and advice (probably more useful than mine, too).
