I've always put regular batteries in my solar lights...and never had a problem.

The solar panels are merely a source of power for the light to conduct and the coils to heat creating the light. If you can readily access the connection point for the positive and negative, you can connect one of the leads to the + on the batter(y)(ies) and it will light up. However, this sounds like more work than it's worth. Especially when you can purchase these solar lights and panels at the dollar store.

Yes, I've replaced the batteries in my solar lights with regular batteries when they stopped working.
