Hanging an over the stove microwave

We will have six inches from the ceiling to work with and the traditional way to hang the microwave will not work since there will be no cabinet over it to attach the microwave to. We have very low ceilings and are trying to update the kitchen.

  • You can create a small drop down soffit to mimic a cabinet or replace drywall with plywood depending on the heights you have to work with. Just make sure you vent it outside & not use the recirculator

How do we suspend the Microwave securely to the wall, this is our real problem. Thank you for your response!

Microwaves made to mount over a stove have a mounting bracket that you will screw into the wall behind the unit. You will still need a shelf to hang (with screws) the microwave from but the bracket will give you a solid support to the wall. This is a decent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6h-cwMUesY

Well in a perfect house this would have been a piece of cake. Upon taking down the cabinet and removing the existing hood, we found that the ONLY stud that was what we needed to secure the bracket, was cut 0ut to accommodate the existing hood. The stud is useless and will have to just replace the hood. We would have had to rebuild the wall with new studs. Not worth opening a can of worms at this point. Thanks to everyone that gave us good suggestions. Great site and now that I have discovered hometalk I'm sure I'll be reviewing many of your good suggestions.
