Wanted to share this beautiful ginger lily with you.

It is Hedychium coronarium and came from Tony Avent's Plant Delights Nursery near Raleigh. This gorgeous lily started blooming over the weekend. It not only blooms in the fall, but its fragrance is like honey suckle. With the frangrant osmanthus and plants like this filling the landscape with wonderful scents in our area, I'm trying to spend as extra amount of time out of doors.

I drove an hour to buy two of those after Erica Glasener recommended them awhile back. The nursery told me they probably wouldn't bloom this year but they must be happy because they are, and I could not be happier. Beautiful flower with a glorious fragrance.

I have never seen these in central Florida! Quite beautiful, do they come in other colors?

GR: I purchased mine at Blodgett Gardens last year, and later found them at Lindley's right here in New Smyrna. Hedychium coronarium only comes in white , but there are some related cultivars in oranges and reds, including "Tara, " "Anne Bishop" and "Elizabeth."

I know this flower name as butterfly, It belongs to the Ginger family is not an Irisits perfume is amazing no other flower has it, it is original from Hawaii I found out if it has space it will take over it multiplies easily I saw it once at home depot and it cost $ 49 + but like I said you can give it away since it spreads beyond control. It is Cuba's national flower I believe great in warm climate, don't know if its good for cold ones.

Garden Rebel/Sims Lands: I have a lot of these in my yard in Long Beach. Yes, it's a ginger plant and I have it in white and yellow. I don't know the scientific names of my plants...I just love to plant anything that I find beautiful. I'll post some pics next time.

I've been trying to find this plant for three years, but no luck yet. Ironically I had just asked the nursery that special orders for me about this plant last week but they can't get them. I'll keep looking til I find some : )

Carol, I believe the original post mentions getting them from Plant Delights, which offers them by mail. Mine have just started blooming, and that fragrance on a warm summer day is heavenly.

Douglas, I called a nursery in S.C. that carries hard to find items and they have a Luna Moth Ginger, which is a hybrid of Butterfly Ginger. I am also getting a Tara Ginger. On my way to pick them up, woo hoo!!

Yay! got my gingers and I also bought a Clemson Bottle Brush and a Hydrangea paniculata "Unique Hydrangea". Came home and got them all in the ground, before a nice little rain. Douglas it was a little bit of a drive to Nurseries Caroliniana, but worth it : )

Sounds like perfect timing, Carol. I don't know the "Clemson" bottle brush but your "Unique" was a great choice.

Plant Delights is the bomb!! Never read a nursery catalog from cover to cover but Tony knows his plants and knows how to write (crazy funny). Get a catalog and enjoy.
