Re- Finish Hardwood floors

We re-finished the hardwood floors in our home. We stripped the old carpet and there were beautiful floors under waiting for our help! ...»

Advice:

Make sure to test out the stain color before applying to the entire floor. We wished we would have done this as we were expecting a more natural looking stain.

We would consider using a professional next time. I think it would be well worth the time and money. It took us so much time and the prep. and cleanup was way harder than I expected.

Painted Boys Bedroom

We painted our boys' bedroom navy blue.

Advice:

We didn't realize how dark it would make the room.

Took a few coats of paint to cover up the lighter colored walls.

Materials:

Paint - $0.00

I painted my son's dark blue too. It was a difficult color. Why does red get the bad rep?

  • This is the before picture with the plain white expansive walls.
  • Another view of the room, one lonely chair on the wall.
  • I chose this vibrant red for the fireplace wall and the wall where the entertainment center is. It makes the room come alive.

Family Room Redo

I had my 2 story family room painted, bought new furniture and accessories.

Advice: ...»

Be sure to test a fairly large area of your wall with the paint colors you are selecting from. Be sure to evaluate the paint colors at different times of the day and in different lighting. Don't underestimate the cost of supplies, they add up quickly! Don't be shy to ask for help from family and friends. Don't think you have to stick to one style of furnishings or accessories, if you buy what you love it will work in the room. Be sure to know how big your furnishings can be.

The experience was pretty good because I had been thinking about the colors I wanted in the room for some time. The furnishings were a little more difficult for me because I didn't want it to be "matchy matchy". The painting I chose for over the fireplace was especially difficult because I don't know what type of artwork I like, I just know I like it when I see it. I also didn't realize how expensive it would be to get the scaffolding and all the paint supplies.

Materials:

sofa - $0.00

2 leather chairs - $0.00

Armoire - $0.00

Artwork - $0.00

Paint - $0.00

Paint supplies - $0.00

Ladder and scaffolding - $0.00

Painted old paneling

We painted the old paneling in our family room. It was an old, dark wood color. We painted it using a shade of white and it looks so much better now. This project was super easy and cheap.

Advice:

Make sure to place drop cloths properly. We stained art of our carpet because we weren't careful enough!

Materials:

Paint - $0.00

Drop cloths/tarps - $0.00
