Corn never came up!

I planted four rows of corn 10 plants deep and they never came up at all, I bought fresh seed, I planted them an inch and a half deep in humus and mushroom compost in mid-march. I'm in Georgia... what could have happened? Should I plant again or should I wait?

You most likely planted them to deep and to cold to plant corn!

Do you have crows? Those sneaky little buggers will dig up the seed to eat it! That happened to me one year. I think I planted about 4 times before I caught them scavenging in my garden!

good grief it could be I do have clothes I have never seen them dig up my corn but that is not to say that they couldn't manage it since I am away at work all day

Several possibilities come to mind: If the soil is too cold they won't sprout, if you've had a lot of rain the seed may have rotted in the ground, critters may be digging the seed up. You're zone 7b which is cooler than our 8b so my guess is that it was too cold. End of April to mid May is when we plant corn here. My dad always soaked his seed corn in water overnight to help it sprout sooner.

I always plant mine in squares so they pollinate good. I plant 4 seed 4 inches apart! They will be fine if you hill them a bit when they are about a foot tall
