The original set

Before

Lightly stripped using a homemade formula. Then lightly sanded and started applying gel stain (love the ease of using)

First go with stain.

Kept on applying stain until satisfied with color. Painted legs and bottom with chalk paint. Sealed with Polyacrylic (terrified to use at first but it was really easy, 3 coats on top and only 1 coat on chairs and bottom)

Added new knobs and voila, finished.

All done!

We love it.

I believe this is what I used. Mix washing soda (available in the laundry detergent section in most supermarkets) in warm water until no more will dissolve, then slowly add flour, a spoonful at a time, to thicken the mixture into a brushable paste. Brush onto to the painted surface, let sit for 30 minutes, then scrub with a stiff bristle brush while rinsing the mixture off with water.
