Cement painting

by Cindy
I would love to add something eye catching to my cement slab (patio) which isn't all that big. I'm just not sure what? I'm wondering if anyone has done any painting on cement? Any ideas? I would love to know what you think and rather it would be worth it or not (with rain, snow ect). If you have done that I would love to see it :) Thank you

You could use a stencil. Check out the variety of HomeTalk posts about stenciling concrete: http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=stencil%20concrete Or you could use concrete stain to mimic tile like this HomeTalk member did: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/patios/staining-your-concrete-patio-to-look-like-tile-174052 You could also check Pinterest for additional ideas by searching "painting concrete," "stenciling concrete" or other similiar search terms.

Have a look at this board - there are quite a few examples of different techniques and ideas: http://www.hometalk.com/b/1465095/concrete-different-projects I am sure you will find something that helps!

Paint a colorful striped or floral rug right on the cement, where you would place an area rug.

You could spray a clear coat over it, but I wouldn't use a gloss, maybe a satin or matte finish. You don't want to make it slippery. I would just use any brightly colored paint. My sister stenciled the riser part of her cement steps with acrylic paint, the little $2. bottles, Been there for years, but it isn't walked on. I use a lot of Rustoleum paint in those little cans, I bet those would work great, and you wouldn't have to clear coat. I would paint a 5 x 7 or 6 x 8 area a base color, you could roll it on, or spray paint (tape the area off). Then I would paint a couple stripes close to the ends. Maybe a 4" wide and a 2" wide on each end. Then you have the whole middle as a blank canvas! I would use some stencils or paint your flowers freehand. You could look at some real area rugs for inspiration. Just don't forget to paint some fringe on each short end! I think they even make a stencil for that. If you go with the paint I suggested, again, get a flat finish, otherwise it could get slippery when wet. Hope this helps you. I would love to see the finished product.
