Might be a bit tricky on metal legs. Do you want them to roll around or is this to protect the floor. If latter, I use those felt pads that stick on the bottom.

Take one chair to Lowes or Home Depot. If they can't figure it out, you probably can't put casters on your chairs.

I had an elderly aunt come to live with me. We needed her chairs to be able to move so she could easily get out. I measure the base of the leg, went to Home Depot bought the casters, attached them to the legs with screws and it worked just fine. You just have to make sure the castors fit the legs. Take a photo and measurements to HD with you and they'll help.

@Judy I guess it depends on the diameter of the legs. Some are screwed into the bottom of the leg and some fit over the end of the leg. Your best advise above from @Carol Bartlett Durdin is to bring a chair to the store to see what they can suggest. Usually the staff is well versed in home projects, although I have found you get the more experienced staff Monday through Friday when the regular staff are on duty.
