I have two steps that go from my foyer to living room, tile up to the edge and then carpet on the vertical surfaces.

There is a vinyl moulding strip where they meet and it is all coming loose. What should I use to reglue the strip to the tile so it will hold? Do I need to take off the whole strip and clean the old adhesive off first? Thank you for any advice you can offer.
This is where it is still holding.
This is one of the areas iit is coming off.

You can pull it off and try to clean it but you will probably need a new one. Use Chemrex to put it down next time. It dries in a couple hours and lasts forever.

I have done this repair a few time's. I would remove the complete strip and clean it and the floor edge with Goof off or MEK, then allow to dry out one hour. Next apply a spot of LOCTITE "LOC PL PREM" caulking every 8 to 10 inches. Press in place firmly product will set in 30 minutes and allow to dry 12 hours for good bond.

Like NHS says a metal strip would be a good substitute. Is the flooring on a slab or wood floor? You can nail the metal strip down with provided twister nails in the package or use this QUAD clear adhesive. Apply a generous bead, press firmly and don't worry about the ooze from the nail holes. Let dry and just cut them off with a razor blade knife. Hope this helps! JL

It is a slab floor under the tile.

You might try a wood stairnose. It would look less commercial.
