How would you fill this space? Home is industrial chic.

Axel on May 01, 2015Unless you love that colour green, I would get rid of that first. Then a couple of wonderful chesterfields in front of the fire. With a beautiful old rug to define that area.Helpful Reply

Swan Road Designs on May 01, 2015You have more than enough vertical "interest." Having said that, I would suggest doing something to visually broaden the space or give the illusion of expansion. For example, a large piece of art that "explodes." Adding something like this will aid in filling the space as well as offering colors from which to build the rest of the room's character. Keep in mind that "pretty" is nice, but also give some consideration as to how you will keep whatever is placed there dusted and clean. This aspect is often overlooked until it's time to drag out a ladder and attend to the task.Helpful Reply

Moxie on May 01, 2015I would paint the wood trim at the fireplace to blend in to the surrounding wall/ or neutral to jive with the fireplace front tile - it currently accents a block of space that stops the eye. If you have the budget (or if you are brave, crafty and handy); I would research vertical wall plantings (they have them for interior spaces) as it appears you have plenty of natural light..that would be amazing!! It would lend depth, character, life and color to the space...you could probably work a water feature into it as well. Just my crazy thoughts -- beautiful home : )Helpful Reply

Susan on May 02, 2015How about some type of sculpture with cogs, grills or pipes? You want it really large and bold to fit the space. You could cover the wall in corrugated metal for a background. Old sign letters or something that resembles that would also look good there. Maybe jumbo letters mounted backwards on squares of black plywood, like jumbo letter press types would be a good way to start. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Betha on May 07, 2015I would agree with large abstract bright colours to coordinate with sofa or pillow fabrics And perhaps use one or more of the same colours throughout the space to tie it all together I don't like that particular colour green with the wood used as fireplace surround white paint might work?Helpful Reply

Jcraw on Nov 01, 2016I would spend my morning coffee time looking at "art prints" sites. Including museum art sites. Art-you-love is difficult to find unless you can afford to shop galleries. I think I'd want at least three pieces leaning on the mantle. One very tall to complement the height you have, but not full width. The other two can be prints or, if your choice is spectacular, maybe just great frames in black and/or metal. In truth, the art will set the mood for the sofa and chairs you'll bring to that space. I'd also "picture" the wall to the left of the steps. By the way, you need only google "industrial chic art" to find yourself drinking gallons of coffee. Gorgeous space. Have funHelpful Reply
