How do I paint door handles?

I have brushed nickel door handles on my doors. I am more of a brass or gold person. They are so much warmer in the colour spectrum. My goal is to paint them if possible, and I would if possible like them to be shiny. The questions are, How do I do this? What kind of paint would I use? Could they be spray painted, and how to protect the paint from the elements? I would appreciate any advice.

Hi Charlie. I like to use Amaco Rub 'n Buff for small projects. For larger projects, I went to these two blog posts for advice. Gold spray on door handles will buy you some time, but no paint will last as long or as well as a factory finish. My advice would be to spray the handles, then spray them again with a gloss topcoat. Design Masters has great shine, has a greenish-gold color to it, and Rustoleum has good brassy tones and good shine. Good luck!
