Kid's Desk Makeover

Tuck is our middle kid and a budding crafter and coloring magician. He comes home from pre-k with crazy amounts of paintings and I end up suffering mom-guilt for not having a place for the kid to be creative at home.
Enter this beauty.....or non beauty. I picked it up at a garage sale for $20 last weekend and with some paint and love transformed it into an awesome desk where Tucker can be creative at.
I used some Annie Sloane Chalk paint in Provence that I had on hand from another project and painted the desk and the drawers with it. It took 3 coats to cover to my satisfaction and then 2 coats of Verithane on top to seal it down and make it all nice and shiny. Who doesn't like shiny things?
Whoa! Bet you didn't see that coming! After I had painted the drawers I was a little disappointed in how "Blah" it looked. I had a map that we had used for something at one point and decided to use it to cover the fronts of the drawers on the side.
A little mod podge, some sand paper, a clear coat, some fresh spray paint on the handles and it was done! Oh and some cursing when I realized I had put the map upside down on one drawer. I know, right? That's probably why you shouldn't rush your projects, ha!

Love the map finish. An upside down map is what makes the world go round!

It looks brilliant. I'm sure he will love this forever. I would love a desk like this for my sewing machine. Question: What is Mod podge. I read a lot of makeovers use this but I have no idea what it is. Maybe it is a different name for PVA glue.????????
