How to change this breakfast nook table

I keep this breakfast nook table covered with a table cloth, but as I was cleaning yesterday it dawned on me that I could possibly give it a face lift. It also has a leaf in it to expand the table to seating for six. My kitchen has a French feel. Thanks for any suggestions!

Paint the top white and the bottom the popular aqua or a bright color that would go with your style. It gives the table a new pop and makes it look like new. If you have the chairs, paint them white. Then do a light distress on the pieces.

I do have the chairs, was mopping at the time and didn't think to get them in the picture as well, lol. I might do the distressed white. I don't think I will be able to do the color on the pedestal though, I'm thinking I want to keep it a little bit neutral. Good thoughts on it though, thank you!

We owned a custom Solid oak store, what we did was to lightly sand down and then first put an stain on that the customer wanted then put a sealer on it .So you can lightly sand and you can mix the stain and sealer spray or bush on the table let completely dry and it should be good to go and something you can be proud of. good luck

I would love to have it but I am in Louisiana and you are in NC. I now redo and give as gifts. I just gave a solid top (no Leaf ) as a wedding gift to one of my great nephews

I just bought a table very similar to this and I am going to paint the pedestal white and put a dark stain on the table top. I have fabric covered chairs that I will be using with the table, but I have seen people paint their wooden chairs white and it looks awesome.

I did mine in a aqua base with a java coffee stain over the distressed area on it. Then also included the under part of the tabletop. On the top of the table I did a deep rich Java coffee stain. It looked very rich and had the french charm. You could do the chairs back/legs in the aqua distressed with the java stain and make the seat dark java coffee stain. Or make yours whatever color variance you like.

Amanda, check out this link and what this lady did with a table top. I was thinking you could do french words or a silhouette of something french. http://www.sawdustandembryos.com/2014/06/shading-with-stain-a-video-tutorial.html

French influence probably means paint. Personally, I would refinish the top by staining, and just use a runner and bowl, etc. for colour and French feel.
  • chalk paint. Google "chalk painting an oak dining table" and you will probably find what you are looking for. If you want the wood top, strip it, sand it and stain it. Seal with a good topcoat. For the chalk paint on the bottom part,,,,just paint it on, sand a little to smooth it and distress it and wax it.

Chalk paint the legs and apron of the tabletop a warm white, strip/sand the tabletop and stain with a soft grey driftwood color stain. We did this with the exact same table for our Florida condo and it looks great! I also chalk painted the chairs in a duck egg blue like color, and recovered the chair seats in a pretty blue and cream fabric.

If you can't do anything else you can paint it like the others do. If +it is real wood it would cover a lot of natural life that grew to make that table. Check the prices of both ways to see what give you a richer look for your money and time.

I think it would be lovely painted and then stenciled on top. Pick colors that you love and that work with your decor. Here's a couple photos:
