Particle and foil board with Laura, what to do?

I have two Ikea side cupboards and I would like to do something with them to take the cheapness out of them and the problem of unsealed sides starting to lift any revaluations as of what to do as to not knock off from rest of pieces?

You could paint the units with a chalk paint, then get some attractive wallpaper and cover the top, folding over the edges. Use PVA glue to seal down and also as a sealant over the paper to protect from spills. This would have the effect of covering and protecting those lifting edges.

To fix the lifting sides, first sand the edges that have lifted to remove any rough spots. Then use wood putty (white or light colored) or joint compound along the sides of the top & even over the top edge if necessary. Smooth on thin coats & let it dry. Sand smooth & repeat until you get a smooth surface and the lifting edges are no longer visible. Put on 1-2 coats of a good primer made to go over laminate. Then paint. You don't have to paint the whole cabinet. You could leave the bottom white and just paint the top a pretty color. If you think it needs it, a few coats of clear sealer or a piece of glass cut to size will protect the paint.

Wow guys thanks so much I didn't know I could do all that I have 50 sheets of mother of pearl mini mosaics I may try to incorporate the above with this take the ikea look of it I can't believe all of the above can be done with particle board, thank you for the sealing idea I will take the sanding abs sealing on, with the paint can you recommend any easy to work with for a first time pa inter I'm in UK x

i had the same problem. I sanded the edges down till smooth,then using masking tape i tore off small pieces and covered the entire top of table.Overlapping the pieces as i went no set pattern , very random.Once top was covered i used brown/blk shoe polish to cover tape. Spreading it on w/ a soft cloth. This gives the appearance of leather.I covered the whole top w/ polyurethane to protect it from scratches and spills. The rest of the table can be any color you like.Shoe polish comes in different colors so you can find one you like. www.discardeddiamonds.com

You could do the same that's on the tall doors. Add pieces of wood in a square on the doors.

Thus is all fab I am thinking if not tile a drift wood appearance maybe contact paper with the sealing everyone is recommending so of the products or techniques are name differently in the UK I just found modpoge if that's right on amazon I Coulldnt get before can anyone recommend a sealer xx

This can give you an idea. It gives a more custom look. This one is actually done in 2 different layers. I would only do 1 layer on yours. I would find the center of your piece then find the half way mark of that. That's where I would run your rectangle. I would place the door pull in the center. You would need to fill in the hole from the other spot. Good luck. Take pics and share when done please
