Do you always need a drainage hole in succulent containers?

I like to grow succulents in unusual shaped pots/containers some which don't have drainage holes. Are they absolutely neccessary? Many thanks, Claire

    All pots/containers must have drainage holes.

    Patrick's right; all plants need drainage, but especially succulents since they store their own water.

    If succulents need drainage holes why do u see them in containers that dont have holes,,,

    Always use drainage holes. However if you're really crafty and want to use a pot that has no hole you can drill your own. Go to your hardware store they have drill bits that you can use on ceramics and practically any other thing you might fancy.
