The Garden Frog with C Renee on May 05, 2015The short answer is yes the long answer is -depends upon what type of hosta, how much sun or shade, how much time you want to spend watering every day, and if you can move the tub off the deck to place under a tree to cover with leaves for the winter. I love planting hosta along with impatiens, coral bells, ferns, and even creeping Charlie in pots.Helpful Reply

Loretta Clark on May 05, 2015I read in a recent magazine that they are great in containers. I think that would make it easy to bring into a shelter for really harsh winters.Helpful Reply

Judy Southerland on May 05, 2015yes you can. Make sure you have drainage. And some shade. Slugs like them so watch for them. they will survive the Chicago winter in pots so they will probably survive anywhere. You can also put a cute umbrella in the tub to shield the sun. Get creative.Helpful Reply

Carol Harris on May 05, 2015I would say YES, but make sure its in the shade. I live in Ar. and I have a couple in pots that stay outside, and they did well during winter months, I covered them in leaves really well, I guess that would depend on how bad your winters are. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Barb Rosen on May 06, 2015After frost in the fall, move your containers to a more protected area (out of wind, on the ground, near a building). Otherwise, if the winter is harsh the hostas roots may freeze and die.Helpful Reply
