Faux Drawer Tray

Hi Hometalk friends! Today I'm sharing the makeover of a very simple little wooden tray/box thingamajig. I found it at my favorite thrift store in perfect condition, and it was only $2, so even though I didn't know what is was supposed to be, I knew I'd eventually do something with it.
Here is the before:
To me it looked like it could be a drawer if it had a knob, so I decided to add one along with some feet to give the feel of a repurposed drawer!
Here I have it in my dining room hutch holding a few ironstone pieces.
Pretty, right? I started by spray painting it in oil rubbed bronze as a base so new wood wouldn't show through when I sanded a bit. I already had this paint so this worked just fine
I gave it a couple of coats of chalk paint, lightly sanded, and added a coat of wax to seal. I used e6000 glue to attach the knob and the feet. (Which are actually lamp parts I already had.)
My favorite is the pretty green damask paper that lines the bottom. I attached it using Mod Podge in a matte finish...
It's also perfect for displaying a few favorite jewelry pieces:
The possibilities are endless!
This was one of my 31 makeovers from my March Madness Series. Here are all the projects I did for that fun series:
