The Easy Way To Clean Outdoor Cushions

Every spring it's the same old story. We start to clean up the patio and I realize that we never did cover up our patio furniture. The cushions look awful and are covered in some sort of green grossness. This year, I was ready to toss them and buy new cushions, but they are sooo expensive! My husband gave me an idea, and now they look brand new again...the best thing, it only took a few minutes to get all of the outdoor cushions clean!

Here is the before! See all the nasty algae looking stuff?

I grabbed Matt's pressure washer and got to work on them.

In no time at all, they were as clean as a whistle!

Don't they look so much better? I cleaned some other cushions that were in much worse shape as well, and they look brand new! To see them and tons more cleaning tips and tricks, click the link below and come pay me a visit!

I would recommend any one attempting to PW fabric be very careful about using a pressure washer on fabric!! PW could easily tear, weaken or at best, decolor fabric.

PW are used to clean concrete, brick, metals, but not usually things as easy to damage as fabric. My helpful husband used his on a wood porch swing and wrecked the wood finish, so now guess who has another project?? Yep. The swing has to be refinished and I am the refinisher. And a wooden swing is way better equipped to stand up to pressure washing than fabric pillows would have been! Also if you use expensive fabric, like Sunbrella, I am fairly sure it would weaken the fabric enough that I do not think it would stand up to the sun and weather any longer, which is what the fabric is initially designed to do and what you are paying the big bucks for.

  • There are cleaners you can get that do the same job and you only use your hose to spray them and will not cause fabric rips because your hose pressure is not too high

Cushions are very expensive even when on sale. I purchased a 7 piece set ,plus toss pillows, of covered cushions on Craigslist they were not as deep color as original but they had been cleaned with a power washer. Very clean. Just use correct pressure.
