Electrical Reel up cycle

There are so many ways to up cycle items that are destined for the burn pile. One of those items are empty electrical reels! Check out how we up cycled one found at my husbands worksite in order to make it more functional!
When Eric came home from a 15 day shift at work and had this beauty in tow I was so extremely excited! I had seen so many up cycles online of these and couldn't wait to give it a try of my own.
A quick meet with the hammer to get some nails sunk down better and a light sanding was all that was done to prep this beauty for some stain. I used Winmax stain in 'Early American' and applied 4 coats of it. 2 coats of Winmax Polyurethane sealed it off and the addition of 4 casters to the bottom helped make it easier to move around.
The functionality was great, we could move it around to where it was needed and it was a great place to set things as we were sitting on the couch - always a bonus with coffee tables, haha!
The perfect amount of old and new! Check out the blog for all the details!

When I was young we removed a middle piece and then wrapped the spool with wire, turned it into a bird cage. It was really cool and gave our bird some room to fly around the spool. It was a very large spool.
