Am looking for some ideas for new landscaping in front of the house.

Mainly, slow-growing, low-maintenance, perhaps blooming shrubs. Orlando Many thanks. Alex

Alex, a shrub I am loving right now is thryallis (Galphimia glauca). The sunny yellow blooms have been going on forever. It will grow to 6 feet but can easily be maintained at the height of a foundation plant. I have bulbine planted in front of mine and love how the colors blend. Here's a photo of the two in my garden.

Alex, quick suggestion, variegated foliage as well as colored foliage can contribute to a landscape as much as flowers. It is a balanced combination that creates the best landscapes. We are heavy into flowers but not at the expence of longevity of the design. The flowers can be used to accent the foliage for the "wow" look. Also, please study the growth habits as plants grow so fast in Florida that it can quickly become cramscaping.Good design is about plant combinations. Pairing red salvia ...»
and blue pacific Juniper, Nandina 'Harbors Dwarf" and purple Pansy, gold mound duranta and pink or purple Torenia, are a few suggestions to get you started, just please remember there are a lot of nuances to think about or you can end up doing a lot of hard work and spending lots of money, then have to redo it all later on!

What about African Iris or some of the lillies as well? Even Agapanthus will do well in the sun. You'll get blooms in the spring/early summer, but then have the weeping lilly effect the remainder of the year. The yellow iris also have the weeping effect. I like the contrast of their texture against other bushes... Just a thought!! :) Oh and I love the nandina. I don't see it used here as much as I did up north, but am thinking of using it in my pool planter... Guess I'll need to start my own thread with a pic for that convo!! :)
