Old Shovel Bird House Stand

We get so many compliments about these bird house stands that we make so I thought I would share how we make them on my blog. For this particular project, I picked up an old shovel and a birdhouse at a yard sale for $2. We have also used other garden tools for these (spades, ice scrapers, pitch fork, etc. - anything that will go into the ground straight).
All we do is cut off the top of the handle of the shovel a little bit so it is flat. Then we add some wood to the top of the shovel handle and screw the base of the birdhouse to it.
You can see the full details on my blog post http://www.mycreativedays.com/old-shovel-bird-house-stand/.
These birdhouses add so much character to our yard and they are always full of birds. They love them!
This is a great repurposed project to make use out of old, rusty garden tools that are headed to the landfill.

Love this! Now I will have to either find old shovels or buy new ones so I can do this to my old shovels. I have been wanting to put up so bird houses (on posts) for some time now and this is how I am going to do it. Thanks
