I have tried to stop by hanging photo of hawk, covering window with paper (only tears paper and hits window in the opening) and hung screening which doesn't cover entire window so bird still finds opening...this has been happening for several years.

Can you plant a tree/bush in front of it? It would appear that the bird is seeing the reflection of the sky.

That won't work. I had a tree in a pot in front of the window and bird just used it as a means to fly off.

AWNINGS .. anything just over the windows so the bird(s) can't see the windows from above & dive into them. GL

Put a mirror tile against the outside wall and gradually move it to a nearby tree. They see themselves in the mirror, thinking its a partner.

I tried the mirror. Bird loved it but also continued to hit the patio door window afterwards.

Reflective film, so it sees itself flying towards itself when it approaches the door?

I had this problem. The bird sees itself in the window but thinks it is an enemy bird, so it dives into the window to attack the bird. The extension service told me to hang a pair of blinds in the window. It does not allow as much light, but keep them opened and you have no more bird diving. It does the trick. I've had no more bird diving since that time , 3 years ago.
