The Star Spangled Banner Trunk

I found a trunk on the side of the road. But when I went to work on it, the natural distress was really bad.
That poor condition actually helped me make the trunk into a distressed flag trunk... the famous one... The Star Spangled Banner.
The trunk needed to have the old cloth/vinyl peeled of and the wood sanded and cleaned.
The condition was really bad, so I decided to leave the piece naturally distressed, staining in blue paint watered down, and stenciled 15 stars on the lid.
Then the red and white paint stripes were thinned with water to create a stain all around the sides.
Then I wrote the National Anthem on the front of the trunk. First with pencil, then topped it with a black Sharpie pen.
Then I used an atlas map book to decoupage the pages on the inside of the trunk.
Lightly sanding the ripples on the lid made the flag appear waving.
I used a man's thick leather belt for the handles and metallic wax for the frame borders.
And it is freshened up but still old in appearance.

I have a trunk almost like this one that belonged to my mother. The one I have is in great shape for its age. I store a lot in it, so I was wondering how you attached the rollers on it ?

I would like to send you pictures of my old trunk. It has a metal plate on top with the date of 1800 something and a paper on the inside with something similar. As far as I can remember it has always been in my family, I'm now 64. If you could see a picture of it I would appreciate any suggestions you may have at how to fix it up.

Why is there a question mark after the word "brave" ?

I keep coming back and admiring this trunk, it is so beautiful. My Grandmothers trunk is in my attic, I know I could do the red, white, and blue, I just wish I could borrow your hand to write the National Anthem on it for me! I look at old documents and see such wonderful old script and wonder how in the world did they do that? It is exquisite! You, my Dear, have put the icing on the cake for Hometalk with this trunk.
    • @Debs Thank you so very much! I did calligraphy for all of our church certificates and feel fortunate to be given the gift for this. Because you are not confident, take your time. Try your handwriting with pencil so that you can erase if you need to. Then go over it with permanent marker or paint. With a little patience, I'm sure yours will be very beautiful! Please come back and share. I'd love to see it!
