Klein Blue American of Martinsville Bamboo Dresser Makeover

Facebook buy-sell-trade groups are great places to find inexpensive furniture (and other random items) that people are parting with for an inexpensive price. When I first saw this piece listed I was intriuged by the shape.
I loved the angled, tapered legs and the bamboo texture. It wasn't until I went to see the piece in person that I saw how the top, base and back frame extended past the drawer frame. It was just a unique piece that I hadn't seen before and that I knew would look great with some paint!
For paint I used General Finishes "Klein Blue". This paint is called a milk paint, but it's not a true milk paint, it is actually an acrylic paint.
For the piece I stripped of the old finish since it was thick and would have resulted in an uneven painted finish. I then primed the dresser with Zinsser Cover Stain primer (I bought the spray cans to make priming the detail on this piece easier for me). Once dry I sanded it smooth with high grit sandpaper and them moved onto painting.
This piece required 4-5 coats of paint which I sprayed on with my HVLP sprayer. There was a definitely learning curve so the first 2 coats were a thin. It would have only taken about 3 coats if I had the knowledge and experience I have now after spraying a few pieces. I also brushed on 1 coat of paint to the drawers before I sprayed them to make sure all of the details were covered.
To seal the dresser I used a gloss topcoat for a nice shine! The electric blue is definitely a bold color, but I think it works well with the style of the piece. It's certainly not for the faint of heart. ;)
