Kitchen stove and counter/cabinet problem

I am going to purchase a house that has a 36 inch gas stove which is not part of the purchase. I want to replace it with a 30 inch electric stove. What do I do with the 3 inch gap on either side and what do I do with the granite counter top?

Thanks,
Betty

if it were me, I would put the stove to one side and make one of these - http://www.hometalk.com/diy/build/furniture/diy-space-saving-rolling-kitchen-pantry-5440418 - for the other side (shortened to counter height.) As for the granite counter top, I don't know if it could be extended without replacing the entire counter top!

Rev-a-shelf has pullouts that are narrow and fit right in. Be careful what you store because of the heat.

another idea is to put the stove to one side & make a cabinet to fit the space, then store things like cookie sheets, serving trays, etc. in that cabinet. the only other choice I can see is a total & complete kitchen remodel...

Yes, a custom cabinet to fit the space and then store cookie sheets and cooling racks in it -- definitely store stuff that won't be affected by the heat from the stove. I question, why the change from electric to gas as gas is a much better way to cook -- you have much better temperature control which leads to much better results.

@Betty I bought a large old house in 86, the former owner told me she'd rather have a snake in the house than gas...even though the electrical system there was about to burn the house down! I added gas, which hasn't caused any problems since..and upgraded the electrical system...while explosions are scary (And rare) electrical fires are no less frightening..

I have a spot like that beside my fridge were I put my recycling bin, which is tall and narrow. but i like EdiLeck's idea. You could put trays or cookie sheets in it.

I only have 3 inches on each side plus the granite counter on top

They make extension pieces to cover the gaps between stove and cabinet. As far as granite goes, check to see if that granite is still available and have that professionally done. Simply because it is so close to the stove and you don't want food and food products constantly collecting in the grout line. Remnant pieces is what I mean about granite. Pretty inexpensive.
