I'm seeing a lot of leaf and stem galls on landscape plants.

These are caused by tiny insects laying eggs on the plants, causing the plant tissue to swell into unusual growths.
Good news: the galls are harmless to plants. No need to do anything except note their presence.

Walter I thought this was bad, but I see it's all in the Plant World. Thanks I went to the Atlanta Botanical Garden last night and watched a film on plant life and how everything works together. I even saw how we came up with velcro. If you are ever downtown stop in and watch the film.

John - most caterpillars of late summer/fall are harmless to trees. Ants could be signs of aphid or scale infestation. Check online for descriptions of lecanium scale.
