Several coats of Spar varnish would probably do it

yes real wood can be outside in the elements.... humans been doing it for 250, 300 years or more . Thompson's WaterSeal! you can brush it on, roll it on or spray it on...my personal favorite is to spray it on; you get better coverage, & you get into places that a brush/roller can not go. I am a firm believer in Thompson's Water Seal...I have used it on my deck, on my umbrella that sits on the deck, used it on a pair of work boots one time... the stuff will last about a year, so if this bench is gonna be outside, it would be good to spray it down every year.

@Ana illausky not a problem Ma'am...glad I could be of some help. : ) My Father was a cabinet maker for 20 yrs, retired from that company & went into building houses....I don't think there was anything he could not do.... He passed away about 10 years ago from leukemia...all the paints, glues, varnishes & stains finally got him.I learned a lot from him....a lot about the realities of life...wish I would have paid atention & learned more about carpentry...

A Marine varnish should do it for you. It waterproofs the wood. I do not know if it prevents bleaching though.

I am sorry but I don't think it will lasttoo long out in the weather. Why…To me it looks as if it was not meant foroutside. Looking at the sides I don't believe it is solid wood they are morelikely PDF, cut to give that nice curved solid appearance? The seat andback is possibly some sort of pine? If it was mine I would keep it under cover andtake it out when the grass is dry and then bring it back to be under cover andout of the weather. Sorry if that seemsso negative but how much do you like this seat? Solid wood will weather and usually turn grey if not treated with some sort ofoil or painted. The grey look isapparently the preferred state. Solid wood can be painted with good woodoutdoor paint. Which in time can chip off but the wood will still be good. Your little seat will not do that and I don’t care what it is painted with, Ifeel you will be disappointed over time. Have a look at, Google--wooden garden seats. You will get an idea about wooden out doorseats. I have a bench type garden seat. It is slatson a metal frame that does not rust. I have used Tasmanian Oak for the slatsbut painted it white. It has been out in the weather for 10 years and every nowand then I give it light sand and another coat of paint. Good luck.

Use varnish that are used on boats! If you live near any body of water go to a store that sells boats, and ask for what the use to protect them. I think this would probably be the way to go since boats are submerged. This would not only make it water resistant, but more waterproof. This way it will protect your very hard work in making this!
