The Only Thing You Need to Keep Your House Warm: Caulk

Have you started breaking out the blankets at night? Do you wear five layers of clothes inside your house? We're only partway through fall, so if you're already shivering, your house may have sprung a heat-leak. Don't burn through cash by cranking up your thermostat – all you need is a $4 tube of caulk to fix your problem! If you spend five minutes caulking your windows, you'll be wearing t-shirts around the house again in no time.

If you're not sure how to caulk a window, visit: https://brightnest.com/posts/caulk-the-only-...

Cabinets: I hate my ugly spindles under my cabinets. Do you have any ideas?

Update: The cabinets are down. We originally planned on doing it this weekend but we couldn't wait. The spindles were decorative. We took out all the screws and the cabinets wouldn't ...»
budge. They were attached to plywood that was bolted to a metal plate attached to a very large lag bolt (2ft.) that was bolted in the attic. There were 2 of these. Now I just need to figure out what kind of lights to use. I was thinking of pendant lighting or can lights. Maybe even a track light that is simiilar to the one I have over the sink but only bigger. What do you think?

We just moved into this house a couple of months ago and are doing some minor remodeling. I hate these spindles under my cabinet. I would love to remove the upper cabinets but I need the space for storage and I need something to support my cabinets. I would love any suggestions or pictures if you had the same issue and came up with a great solution. Eventually I would like to remodel the kitchen but that is much further down the road.

  • The before picture really doen't show how bad the deck was!!!!
  • 1

I used "Restore" on my deck this past summer. Comes in multiple colors, and did exactly what I was told it would do -

filled in cracks, covered well - no sanding invoived, Just powerwash, lite scrubbing at "mossy areas" and bang! I chose to not back roll the second coat and leave the finish product textured, to help when walking on it in icy conditions.

If this is Deck Restore - we bought a kit to 'experiment' on covering our pool deck/patio. ...»
Didn't get to try it as we had other 'issues' going on...with an 8K estimate to re do the patio - I just might have to go this route after all....cost will be significantly less to use this product - concrete is in good shape - just ugly...we have to add some concrete to fill in low spots - guess we are waiting til spring!! : )

  • My sister brought this to Florida from New York for me to have.
  • I did the chemical stripping out doors in the driveway. But due to the humidity in Florida I had to move indoors to apply the stain and finish.
  • The Only problem was my wife did not care for the fact that I applied the finish in the middle of her living room of our Condo. I don't have a shop. She is glad I am done and that she has a new desk to use.

refinishing and repair when I got it. A dog had chewed off one leg and part of the front just above the top drawer. The original finish was dark lacquer and the wood grain could not be seen through the dark lacquer. I repaired the foot and the front, and stripped the whole thing down to bare wood. I stained it with MinWax Red Mahogany #225, and finished it with MinWax Tung Oil hand rubbed and wet sanded in between each coat.

Storm Damage Control - In Sandy's Aftermath

While most people are mucking out their homes after Sandy, some may be concerned about the damage to their ponds and water features. When the insurance adjuster comes, make sure they look at the water feature for damage as well. Your water feature is considered personal property and any damage should be covered by a homeowner's policy.
