Front door paint problem
-
Marion Nesbitt on May 19, 2015Might not have anything to do with rain. Sometimes this happens if you use latex over oil-based paint. I'd strip or sand it down. I use Zinzer 1-2-3 primer. Seems to adhere to anything and seems to accept any type of top coat.Helpful Reply

Gail Salminen on May 19, 2015I agree with @Marion Nesbitt latex over oil is always a problem and more times than not outdoor surfaces are usually covered in oil base paint.Helpful Reply

D & K on May 20, 2015Is your door metal, HDF or fiberglass? Latex paints allow moisture, water to pass thru. If the previous surface doesn't disperse or absorb the water or if the paint doesn't bind very well to the old surface, the water will cause the paint to loosen and bubble. A good indication of this is if you push the bubbles flat and see if water comes out. Either way...a good primer, preferably an oil base, could have prevented this. Once the bubbles have formed the paint's grip on the underlying surface is gone. The only fix at this point is to remove the paint you applied and start over with a good oil base primer. Once that is dry you can apply any oil base or latex top coat.Helpful Reply
