What is a good way to keep a skunk out of your garden?

I just planted some rose bushes and other plants. There is a skunk that keeps coming around and digging them up looking for grubs probably. Any suggestions how to get rid of it?

I have a friend that noticed when he installed some of those vibrating gopher 'sticks' around his yard that the skunk family under his house moved out!? Worth a try. I would try to determine what they are after? Compost pile? Then move it/cover it. Also block any holes in the fencing. BUT, I am told that they can climb! yikes! Good luck!

Moth balls keep skunks away. If you are worried about the moth balls getting into the soil you can put them out in little bowls around. (or build a little house out of a small milk carton by cutting a large hole on one side to keep rain from dissolving them quickly). An exterminator told my neighbor to put moth balls down a hole along the side of her house that skunks dug to draw them out and then once the skunks were out she could fill the hole. It works. I put them along the back of flower beds and that seems to work too. I think it's the smell that keeps them away.

Or try a spice that you probably have in your pantry.....Red Pepper flakes. Skunks and squirrels hate this. You can also use cayenne pepper or paprika. Just sprinkle around the area.

I'd put out a live trap, hopefully catch them and shoot them. You never know if they're carrying any diseases. Next year you could have a whole family there.

Use nematodes to prevent grubs for next year.
