I got this cute telephone table the other day. I would like to re upholster it but I have no Idea on how to get the back off. The back panel is very tight and there is no screws nails or tacks holding it in.

remove the fabric, it may be stapled

What about those holes across the bottom of the back and the two up higher on the curve? Aren't there screws in those holes? The screws along the lower straight edge may only be to hold the back to the body of the table but their purpose could be twofold and they could actually be also holding in the fabric piece. The other two holes along the curve don't seem to serve any purpose...except maybe holding the back cushion to the frame? On the other hand, sometimes with chairs with fabric on the back like this, the back piece just pops out with some pressure but you'll probably have to remove the seat first because the back will probably come out in only one direction--falling forward.

@Shari Thank you for bring that to my attention. I think I will take the chair apart there and see if there is some way it will release the front panel.

yes I agree with Shari unscrew and the back should come right off and fabric is usually stapled on ...good luck! can't wait to see the outcome....

From the picture I agree with the others take the screws out at the back, my guess is there is a grove that the backing of the top fits into and when back is off you will be able to slide it out. Cute find please post picture when done.

If you look at the front and back photos, you will see the reason for the screws. To hold the arm and tabletop to the back. try removing(carefully) the black felt on the back of the chair for some release points. possibly biscuits that slide in and hold the upholstered back to the wood frame.. Then go from there.. Nice piece, by the way..

It may that you may undue the seat from the frame. There may be some clips or other items holding the back in place. I think I would give it a try. It looks like screws are in the seat.
