Floor needs help!

Moved into this home two weeks ago and it has a plethora of DIY needs. I just painted the front door, previously was a primer gray color, and I love the results. There is a small area of old tile in the entry that needs help. Paint maybe? It appears to be tile and not vinyl flooring.
Note the tile in the entry - dated and sad..

It looks like a pretty small area....Do yourself a favor and just buy a few press and place tiles for now...you DONT have to buy the entire box..just what you need! I feel your pain..we just moved and Im dealing with 90's teal carpet!

Thanks for the suggestion, Jen. I'll check them out. It is a small area. I also have a teal sink which looks like it may have been painted. Not sure what the previous owners had in mind since it is the only teal in the whole house. Thank God there's no teal carpet - feeling your pain!

I had the same problem in my house. I did the peel and stick tile, finished it in a couple of hours. Lots of colors and styles to pick from.

My only suggestion was why not paint the floor? But sounds to me the tiles is a good idea; gave me an idea also. Thanks ladies!

This looks to be around the size of the same tiled area we had in our old house It didn't take me very long at all to break it up, clean up the floor underneath and re-tile with an inexpensive neutral porcelain tile. I used a pre-mixed adhesive and grout and It looked great and held up right until we sold the home 10 years later. The next home we bought had the same problem (go figure) but I used a pricier slate that wasn't so expensive after all because the area was so small and it looks even better!

@Susan Galipeau Vrana I had absolutely no tiling experience when I did the first house! I asked just asked at the hardware store what I would need. Don't let it intimidate you, it's really quite simple and there so many beautiful tiles available today. I must admit that with my first project there was no tile cutting involved, the area was a perfect square so I found a size tile that would allow me to do the job without any cuts. If you do have to cut a few tile they have small manual tile cutters that you can rent that are very easy to use. Just be sure to buy some extra tile as insurance in case one breaks.
