Lois Martin on May 26, 2015I live in Montana too and thought I knew every plant, but not sure about this one. I'd wait to see if it blooms, then decide if it's friend or foe. It's not an "invasive" weed. I will keep researching... Here it is: http://www.friendsofeloisebutler.org/pages/plants/cowparsnip.htmlHelpful Reply

Srogers on May 26, 2015Yes, possibly cow parsnip. Here's a comparison to some look-likes, some are considered highly toxic. http://www.nwplants.com/information/white_flowers/white_comparison.htmlHelpful Reply

Valerie A. de Vincent on May 26, 2015it looks like cow parsnip to me too - i have some growing in my old (last house's) garden. i love the giant, dramatic leaves and huge flower white flower-heads. it has never caused a bad reaction to me or my family or friends, however, i have to admit it's pretty invasive, and SOME people apparently have a bad reaction to touching, or maybe even brushing against it. also, later in the season (in my old garden), it always became pretty ratty looking as insects seem to really attack the leaves. i'd cut it down at the point, but that means my flower border against the front of the house would become a bit bare looking (because its big tropical looking leaves would lend some structure to the garden).Helpful Reply
