The Piece That Has Me Guessing...

I came across this piece at a church sale. It was late in the day and this was still by the front door. It was only $2! What is it? Is it a coffee table? Is it an entertainment center? It kind of looks like a desk, but very short???????
After further investigation, this was not a desk that someone cut the legs off because it was all there. Nothing was cut off. Whatever this is, I grabbed it and brought it home to give it a makeover.
I sanded and sanded and sanded the top and stained it a dark color. It wasn't perfect, but it came out so much better than where it started.
I painted the rest of the piece a fun, turquoise color and used Rustoleum's brass colored spray paint on the hardware. There was a handle missing from one of the hardware pieces so I just moved the complete handles to all the side drawers and put a different one on the drawer in the middle.
This is now a beautiful piece that has tons of storage and can be used for a few different things. You can see more about this makeover on my blog post here:

I have a desk that is similar in finish except it has a melamine like finish on the top. Any ideas how to redo that? Really like your choice of colors and handles.

That turned out absolutely stunning. I am in awe of your talent. And of course your new piece of furniture.
