Making a queen headboard work for a king mattress

What can I do to still use my existing queen headboard. We just ordered a king mattress and the bedroom set matches so I would love to still use my queen headboard. Any ideas on what to do to make it wider or at least look wider? It is on a wheeled metal bed frame so it is more for looks than anything. Thanks for any help!

Mattress will arrive in two weeks, so I have some time.

you might make wall scones out of a rectangle piece of board that would but up against your frame on both sides. Measure from the middle out so that both sides are equal are you going to mount your headboard to the wall? If so mount it then mount the lights on either side many variety but you get the idea.

@Dottie Thank you, I appreciate the ideas. I'm not worried about the bed frame because it will be a king metal frame. I just want to use my headboard since it matches the dresser and chest. it's really not part of the bed. It's just presently bolted on queen metal frame. Not an integral part of the bed, more for decoration than anything else.

We use a queen headboard with a king mattress. We have pillows up against the headboard (behind the pillows for our heads) and you can hardly tell the difference.

@Connie Mar Thank you, I appreciate the idea! I wondered about that. Glad to know you did it and it worked out. I even thought about putting pictures to fill the space on the wall.

Is there a foot board? I think the foot board wouldn't work with the king mattress. I 've seen people cut sections off the foot board and add it to the sides of the queen to make it wider. FB are shorter and it made a little waterfall effect on each side. Don't have a picture but it worked nicely.

@Linda Santo No, there is no footboard. The headboard is basically a Decoration. It could just stand up behind the bed, if I really wanted it to. It is only bolted to a separate METAL FRAME at the top of the bed.

I have done what Linda said to do....cut the foot board and added it to the sides of the headboard. Since you do not have a foot board, could you go to a used furniture store and find one that is the same color....would be luck if you could find one but if you can't, I would wait till you have the king size mattress and see how your queen headboard looks.

I did what Connie Mar said. I just put it behind the mattress and it doesn't show. I also have a small night table on each end.

If you attach a long board to the metal frame, you can the attach the headboard to the newly installed board. There should only be about a 6 inch difference on each side an once the bed is made it will not be noticeable.

You can make it look larger with painting the wall to make it look like a bigger headboard.
