I would prefer to paint shabby chic, I wanted to sell it once it's done. I was thinking pale green but not sure what colour underneath.

@Polly Zieper I was thinking underneath because you need a couple of colours if you're going to sand it down to shabby chic, with my logic. I really need to research your idea's because I don't want to ruin this. Thank you :) I will post the after pics, eeee :)

Hi, I make over furniture and sell it on craigslist all the time.. When selling furniture you have to think of what color would go in most peoples home. I would paint this dresser white. If you have a night stand to go with it you could be more creative. I pick up furniture that dont match and pint them to match each other. Maybe you can find a side table and chair at goodwill. I attached a example of what I'm talking about. Much success.

I would use a chalk based paint in a light ash colour cot the main case and line the shelves with pretty papers and you can change to suit your decoration xx

I have dune very well when I stick to a collection as my customers usually buy the hole grouping. I shop at goodwill flea markets and some garage sales and craigslist has a free section. Note: Different goodwill's charge different. I pay around $5.00 to $10.00 for most items as I buy things people think are junk, but I know I can take off paint and tighten a leg. I have a limit I never go over $40.00 for anything and it has to be very nice. Try to be different, I stencil, decoupage , cover chairs seats and lamp shades in the same matching fabric. Example of before and after stenciled and decoupage. I paid $3.00 for the mermaid table and $2.00 for the girl table. I hope you love doing this as much as I do.

Wow Linda. These are wonderful! I love the girl table!! I've never done decoupage but I'm willing to learn! I know you're in CA and I'm in KY...but what would you sell that girl table for? I really like your work. Are you self taught or did you take a class on furniture refinishing. Stripping paint, etc? Thank you!!
  • Linda Dorn Linda Dorn on May 28, 2015
Hi, Gayle, Thank you, I'm self taught, I watch a lot of YouTube then put my own spin on a item. I fugue it's just paint and I can start over and I have made some mistakes in the process LOL. I sold the girl table for $125. and the mermaid table for $195. I had a lot of interest in the mermaid table as I live close to the beach. Also a self taught repurposer? HA!!.... I find that white, off white, light grays, and light beige/tan seem to work best for me when re-selling....also black, with red under tones. I do see a lot of "light" blues, such as ASCP, Duck Egg Blue, which is very pretty, but I personally have not had that much luck with blue!! Good Luck, and let us see what you decide!!

@Pauliegirl1 I sure will repost when she's done. I couldn't stand to see this bureau go to the dump. I have to find a proper foot for it, it's an appliance foot, I just got proper shelving material and paint, almost ready to go!

Leave it natural. Old pieces have such beautiful detail.

Depends on the colors of the room but I could see teal blue.

Linda Dorn When you buy and remake pieces that didn't match, and you redo them to coordinate do you sell them on line /craigslist as a set?How do you know how to price them?
    • Linda Dorn Linda Dorn on May 31, 2015
@Polly Zieper Hi, I sell them on craigslist in the same listing, each price is prices separate, but if they want to buy all the items I have a discount price for that also. My pricing is just a gut felling. I look at other thing for sell on craigslist to see what they are selling for. I was asked by a owner of a antique mall if I would put my furniture in her store as a dealer. So this Monday I will also try this to sell my furniture. I'm not sure how this will work yet and if I can keep up with the demand if my items sell.

Tammy, maybe you can find an oval or rectangular mirror at Goodwill/sal. Army to go with the dresser- and a tray to keep cosmeticsa clock, a vase, a book, etc, on top

I've added a couple of different lighting pics to view because I still have no confidence in colouring this bureau/shelf. I rescued it with the hopes of saving it from the land fill and someone will see the value in it rather than shopping at Walmart. I thank you all so much for your advice, you have no idea :)
