I bought this last year and do not remember what it is.... and I really want to know more about it as it is growing so fast....

I believe it is a type of Wandering Jew, Tradescantia Albiflora

Polka Dot plant is the common name of this plant. Like Michelle said it comes in several shades. Lt pink, Soft red, white. It winters over here on the Texas Gulf Coast and spreads wonderfully. Just transplanted one little pot that turned into about 8 plants over last year and the winter. I just love this plant and how easy it is to maintain.

  @Lynnis Burt hi lynnis...i live in Maine and winters are very cold... will it withstand the cold over the winter months outside inground?

  @Carol cirillo only way to tell would be to cut off a section and pot it and then leave it out over the winter. We have very mild winters here in zone 9 where I live, last year it did not even get below freezing. Good luck with your project. I love the light pink and red mixed together a very easy plant to root and grow I often just cut it back as it gets kind of tall and plant what I cut off just as it is in the ground and it takes off.

  @Carol cirillo In Missouri I consider this to be a houseplant/tropical, not hardy for outdoor planting in the winter.

  @Carol cirillo Yep that is it. I see you have it tied up. If you want give it a hair cut. It will fill out and not be so floppy. You can take those cutting and either stick in a peat potting soil like miracle grow soil, Or stick in a pretty glass on a window sill. Double your plants.

  @Therese Ryan-Haas I thought those only grew a foot to 1.5 feet high? Her plant looked bigger that that to me. Maybe it is just the picture.

definitely not a jew but i have two that just keep growing like nuts and over tops of other stuff on top of bakers racks and hangs down to the table so i have to trim..ha....Love it and so easy to keep.....jew i love also but its rather seasonal and not a houseplant...might be similar family though.

  @Angelia Christenson Did you mean to say Tradescantia pallid is not a house plant? It definitely is. But can be used as filler in planters, or hanging pot in the summer months. And no, is not in the same family. Wonderful easy to care for plant. I use it to cover the soil in large pots of Ficus benjamina trees.

  @Therese Ryan-Haas I thought i made it clear...my bad...i just thought with the similar leaves and length it gets to be it might be part of a simlar group. Im corrected. I know i try to keep as many houseplants as possible and keep them well tended and dusted cause they are good for the air and i have horrible lungs on top of my terminal illness and need to keep the air in the house as pure as possible. i freeze cause he keeps it so cold in here and have to sleep in a hammock a lot which im sure kinda offsets the good pure locked down air but being frozen and tiny at 89 pounds aint good for me either. Lose both ways but i sure feel better even in the hot months with fresh air pulling thru with the attic fan than i do with everything climate controlled. (we have wood heaat to cut the cost of propane which i KNOW makes it very dirty but i hope the sixty plus house plants i bring in every winter help with that as well. Maybe i should live in the greenhouse in the winter...ha

  Angelina.... I have Jews and they do okay indoors as well. Don't give up on em in cold weather. I just keep it in the window. Then toss it back outside in the summer. Can't kill these things... an easy black thumb plant to keep. Lol. I also have the polka dot plant from above. Imma drag it indoors this winter too.

  Yes Dottie, it is the same as polka dot plant just the white version. You should also try to learn the Latin name of plants. Because you may call it a polka dot plant, somebody else may call it freckleface plant. And neither will know you're talking of the same plant.
